Yesterday my cousin Kim got married. I already posted a pic of the cake on my personal blog, but thought for the sake of keeping them all in one place I'd post it here too. The cake actually has only one real cake layer, with cake dummies for the bottom two layers. I made a butter cake with lemon cream cheese filling, the frosting is all buttercream. All my cakes are a learning experience and this was no exception. I learned my hands aren't nearly as steady as I'd like them to be! I did enjoy making this one though and although I see some imperfections, I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

It's a boy!
Here is my most recent creation made for a friend's jungle themed baby shower. I made the monkey and tree out of fondant. I used a dowel for the tree trunk and just covered it with fondant. I was also hosting the shower so I didn't want to stress myself by going too detailed. I also tried a new filling recipe which I loved. It was a Lemon Cream Cheese filling and it was very yummy!

Just a quick post about my latest cake. Nothing too interesting. I had grand plans for my daughter's birthday cake, but then I realized along with cleaning the house and making a bunch of food for everyone, I wasn't going to have nearly the amount of time I would need to do what I really wanted. So here it is, Lauren's first birthday cake. Not my finest work, but she LOVES Winnie the Pooh so she was happy :)

It might be a while before I post again...my next big project is a wedding cake in May and it will be gorgeous! (well, I'm crossing my fingers anyway :)

Well I decided I needed a blog for my cakes. Not that I have all that many, but it's a good place to share what I do make. I started to have an interest in cake decorating back in high school, but the only thing I remember doing was helping my aunt put buttercream flowers on a sheet cake. Then I was able to help a little with my own wedding cake (which another aunt made). My interest really bloomed when my little boy was turning one. I was determined to make his cake and I wanted it to be special. Soooo, the first cake I truly baked and decorated by myself (ok so my mom helped some too) was his puppy cake. It was a hit. Since then I've done lots more birthday cakes, a few wedding cakes, and the occasional miscellaneous cake. I enjoy making cakes for family and friends I do not do this professionally and I'm not sure I'd ever have the energy to. I try not to get burned out. It's fun learning different techniques and giving myself a challenge. Part of the challenge is juggling all that with my family life, church responsibilities, and all the things we have going in our lives. Thanks for visiting my blog and don't forget to say hi! Enjoy!
